The Production Fee is $225 for youth 17 years old and under. For anyone 18 and older, the Production Fee is $50 (both include show shirt). Being in a live production with The Biz includes approx. 50-100 hours of acting, vocal, and dance instruction. Plus, your child gets the experience of being on stage, with costumes, props, and a set, and learns memorization skills, coordination, time management, and many other life skills.

*Financial assistance available through The MRA Foundation

Rehearsal Schedule:

Rehearsals will begin with an ALL CALL on Thursday, September 19 from 6:45-9:15 PM followed by rehearsal on Saturday, September 21 from 2-9 PM. You will have rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday, as well as weekends beginning in Oct., so BE SURE to write conflicts for ALL days on the back of the AUDITION FORM. During tech week (the week before the show opens), you will have mandatory rehearsal EVERY evening from 5:30-9:30 PM, and Thursday’s rehearsal may go a bit later.  We’ll make every effort to release the younger kids earlier. If this is too late for your child, please do not have them audition. Final dress rehearsal WILL go much later, as it is a Friday evening. We will get the full schedule out to you as soon as possible. PLEASE submit all conflicts on the back of your AUDITION FORM (NOT the Attendance Policy).  We will not be accepting any conflicts for the week of tech week or ANY shows, and please note, as always, your conflicts may affect casting decisions.

Preparation:

Prepare 16-32 bars of an age appropriate song in your range that also shows off your acting skills! Complete these two forms (Audition Form & Attendance Policy) prior to arriving for your audition. It is preferred for the Audition Form to be filled out on a computer so that all fields are completed and legible.  The form works best when opened and completed in Adobe Acrobat (not a web browser).

Arrive on the day of your audition at least 10 MINUTES early to sign-in at The Biz office and be sure to bring the following:

  1. SHEET MUSIC or A BACKUP TRACK OF YOUR SONG ON A PHONE (no singing can be on the backup track)
  2. YOUR COMPLETED AUDITION FORM & ATTENDANCE POLICY
  3. ALL MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY CONFLICTS (including holidays) FROM September 19 – November 30, WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF THE AUDITION FORM. Please include any vacations! We require ALL cast members to be available for every night of tech rehearsals and ALL shows. (Conflicts added after casting may result in being asked to step down from the show.)
  4. CLOTHES THAT YOU CAN DANCE IN. We will hold a mandatory 30 minute dance audition after every 2 sets of singing time slots.

Synopsis:

Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
