Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals will begin on Friday, August 2 from 6-8:30 PM. For this show, most large group rehearsals will be held Thursday evenings, Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoons/evenings. Leads or other small groups will be called on Mondays, Wednesdays & Sundays as needed. During tech week (the week before the show opens), your child will have mandatory rehearsal EVERY evening from 5:30-9:00 PM. If this is too late for your child, please do not have them audition. Final dress rehearsal WILL go later, as it is a Friday evening. PLEASE submit all conflicts on the back of your AUDITION FORM (NOT the Attendance Policy). We will not be accepting any conflicts for the week of tech week or any shows, and please note, as always, your conflicts may affect casting decisions. Final rehearsal schedule will be available within the week after casting the show.
Preparation:
Prepare 16-32 bars of an age appropriate song in your range that also shows off your acting skills! Complete these two forms (Audition Form & Attendance Policy) prior to arriving for your audition. It is preferred for the Audition Form to be filled out on a computer so that all fields are completed and legible. The form works best when opened and completed in Adobe Acrobat (not a web browser).
Arrive on the day of your audition at least 10 MINUTES early to sign-in at The Biz office and be sure to bring the following:
- A BACKUP TRACK OF YOUR SONG ON A PHONE (no singing can be on the backup track). You can bring SHEET MUSIC too, but an accompanist may not be available, so please be sure to bring a a backup track.
- YOUR COMPLETED AUDITION FORM & ATTENDANCE POLICY
- ALL MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY CONFLICTS (including holidays) FROM August 2 – September 28, WRITTEN ON THE BACK OF THE AUDITION FORM. Please include any vacations! We require ALL cast members to be available for every night of tech rehearsals and ALL shows. (Conflicts added after casting may result in being asked to step down from the show.)
- CLOTHES THAT YOU CAN DANCE IN. We will hold a mandatory 30 minute dance audition after every 2 sets of singing time slots.
Synopsis:
Charley Maplewood has never been one for parties – that would require friends, which he doesn’t have. Well, unless you count his monster friends, but they’re only imaginary. But now that he’s turning ten—the big one-oh—he decides to throw a birthday party for himself, complete with a “House of Horrors” theme. Of course, things don’t work out as he plans. Will Charley be able to pull it together before the big one-oh . . . becomes the big OH-NO!?
Based on the beloved book, The Big One-Oh! JR. features lyrics by Academy Award-winner (Fame, Footloose) Dean Pitchford, the author of the novel; music by three-time Tony-winner Doug Besterman (The Producers, Fosse, Elf, Young Frankenstein), and a book by iTheatric’s award-winning playwright Timothy Allen McDonald (Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, James and the Giant Peach).
